PEETU'S MONDAY

Story and pictures by the Kuuskoskis

You may sometimes hear Trolls say that they are having "A Peetu's Monday". After you read this story, you know what it means.

It was a beautiful Monday in Trolldom and the little Muksu Trolls were excited. "Peetu is here!" shouted Mustard Moe. "Will you sing us a scary song, please?" asked Blueberry. "My favorite is the one about the Itsy Bitsy Spider. Do you know that one?" said Red Pepper. "Wait for me!" Rosie called, running as fast as she could. "I will sing as many songs as you'd like" Peetu promised. He started singing and his wonderful voice was heard all over the Muksu Meadow.
Suddenly, Peetu collapsed. And he couldn't sing even one more note! "What happened to you?" Red Pepper wanted to know. "Oh dear, Peetu, where did your voice go?" wondered Mustard Moe. "We have to do something" said Blueberry to Rosie. "I've got an idea!" said Rosie. 'Me, too!" said Blueberry and off they went.
They came back with the biggest, longest scarf you have ever seen. "Maybe your throat is feeling cold" said Blueberry. "This will warm you up" said Rosie. Peetu wasn't cold at all, but he couldn't get any words out to tell them that. "Here, take some cod-liver oil, my Mom says it's good for you" said Mustard Moe. Peetu was feeling pretty awful all over. "I think I better lie down" he finally managed to mumble.
Buster brought his guitar and played some nice music for Peetu. "Come on, buddy, sing along with me" said Buster. Peetu just sighed. Lilli told him a few silly jokes but Peetu didn't cheer up. "Hey, Peetu, I've got beautiful roses for you, and Trumpetnose wrote you a special Get Well Soon poem. Are you feeling better yet?" said Murriboy cheerfully. "Let's help him home - I think he needs rest" said Lilli. And they carried Peetu to his home.
PEETU WAKES UP Next morning Peetu woke up feeling somewhat better. "Hmmm, I guess I'm feeling better, except that....hmmm....". Something was still wrong, and Peetu didn't know how to fix this problem. "I can't even tell anybody...I'm sure they would laugh at me", he mumbled and headed for the shower. He tried singing in the shower but it didn't work. Maybe breakfast would help.
Peetu was sitting in his favorite chair after breakfast, thinking about this terrible problem when suddenly, Red Pepper, Blueberry and Rosie burst in, almost falling over each other. "Are you feeling better?" asked Red Pepper. "Can you come back and sing more songs, please?" said Blueberry. "What's the matter anyway?", asked Rosie. "Can we help?"
"Oh, I can't tell you, it's too embarrassing" said Peetu. "You can tell us, it's okay", Blueberry said. Finally Peetu admitted the real reason he had stopped singing yesterday. "I forgot the words! Can you believe it, I forgot the words!" he said, still stunned. "Oh don't worry", said Rosie. "We forget stuff all the time" she assured Peetu. "Why don't you just look up the words in the book?" asked Red Pepper.
Peetu hadn't even thought about that. Before he could protest, the three determined Muksus had pushed him out the door, and were dragging him back to Muksu Meadow. "You'll feel better when you sing some more" said Red Pepper. "Yeah, and we'll help you sing, too" said Blueberry. "Maybe I should go back home", suggested Peetu. "Please don't", said Rosie from behind Peetu. "Anyway, I push if I have to" she threatened.
Together they started singing songs from Peetu's music book. "At least I can still remember the tunes', Peetu mumbled. He was not really enthusiastic about this experiment. The little Muksus were having a ball and they made Peetu laugh with their silly antics. He didn't even notice that he had stopped worrying about the words and everything, they just kept singing and singing.
And then Peetu realized he was starting to remember the words to first one song, then another. "I don't think I'll need this book just now!" he shouted with joy! "Let's sing some more, my friends!" The little Muksus were delighted. "I'm going to go and tell the others!" said Rosie. "Thank you, my friends," said Peetu. "You have no idea how much you have helped me" he added.
"I feel terrific - I feel like I'm seven feet tall!" Peetu said. He was very happy. "How about that scary song?" asked Blueberry. "And the one about the Spider" said Red Pepper. "Can we still sing along with you?" asked Rosie and Mustard Moe.  And they sang all kinds of songs until it was time for the little Muksus to go home to dinner. But Peetu had a few more songs in him yet.
He climbed high up into one of Trolldom's tallest trees, and there he sang soft lullabies, sweet love songs and even a little bit of Blues. "I'm singing the Blues, and I'm blue, but I'm not feeling blue! I'm feeling great and ... tired, I think. I better go home and get some sleep. But I'll be back tomorrow!"
